A family of Jesus followers

learning to live free.

Canopy Church is a community loyally committed to one another, seeking to faithfully follow Jesus for the renewal of our city and the world. Founded in 2016 as a family of house churches, Canopy was born from a desire to explore church life centered around the dining room table. This house church model has changed over time, but our heart for table fellowship hasn’t diminished at all.

We gather on Sunday mornings in Westside Costa Mesa to worship God as we encounter his presence, sing together, hear from Scripture, and respond to the work and ministry of the Holy Spirit. We also continue to meet in homes throughout Orange County. These Tables meet regularly to share a meal, share our lives, pray together, serve our neighbors, and grow as disciples through godly friendships of support and challenge.

we believe that God’s primary work of renewal is though His Church

We believe that God’s primary work of renewal in the world is through his Church: communities of men, women, and children growing together in relationship with God, being formed in the character and likeness of Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit for service and mission in our city, neighborhoods, workplaces, and beyond.

When we are not meeting for Tables, or for Worship or Prayer Gatherings, we aim to be united around shared, common rhythms of life. As a church community, we anchor our weeks on a few simple practices. These do not take much time and can be easily included in a more robust devotional rhythm, but they serve as a simple foundation for us. Uniting around these common rhythms bonds us together even as our lives are scattered across a variety of workplaces, vocations, and throughout many cities.

Our Values

Claimed

God is for us. In Jesus and by the power of the Holy Spirit, God has made us His own, His people, citizens and heirs of His Kingdom, daughters and sons. We want to grow in our identity as His children and in intimacy with Him. We always remind one another of who God is and who we are in Him.

Commissioned

God works through us. Jesus has invited us to partner with Him in God’s restorative work in the world through His Spirit with and in us. We want to grow in our awareness that He is at work and in our availability to join Him in that work. We always look for opportunities to partner with Him.

Covered

God is with us. He does not leave us to fend for ourselves but has given us His Spirit to seal us as His own to empower us for His mission. We want to grow in sensitivity to His presence and in the expectancy that, where He is, anything is possible. We always pursue His presence and ask Him to move among and through us.

Family

And we don’t do any of this alone. Notice, the pronouns: “God is for us. God is with us. God works through us.” This journey into freedom is not a solo venture. We need one another to live out the Gospel and to experience the full abundant life that Jesus came to give us. So, we always look for ways to grow together as a family.

Our Core Convictions.

We hold to the historic teachings of Christian orthodoxy handed down in the Apostles Creed and the Nicene Creed. We are also aligned with more recent formulations of core Christian doctrine spelled out in the Lausanne Covenant and the statement of faith of the Langham Partnership.

In addition to these statements of faith, we hold the following core convictions based on our understanding of the belief and practice of the early Church as observed in the book of Acts.
